OBJECTIVE
In regards to the session's content material, self-awareness stands as the primary concept of knowing yourself intellectually, emotionally and socially. Having the capacity to see inside our thoughts and recognize ourselves as individuals separate from our surroundings and peers, nonetheless, differentiating our true motivations, preferences and personalities and how they reflect the daily decisions and interaction with others. It is one of the core components of emotional intelligence since it allows us to identify and understand our emotions and the rest and manage the way to handle those emotions in our daily environment, according to Travis Bradberry.
Self Awareness is a key to confidence and acceptance, and it can provide a guiding light to the types of careers and activities a person likes doing, guiding our steps to a greater and satisfying state of fulfillment and happiness
REFLECTIVE
During the development and discovery of the individual, self-awareness refreshes the meaning of life itself, since it allows us to clearly identify our strengths and weaknesses. This provides a great advantage only if we act in accordance with that knowledge because it is not enough with knowing our strengths and flaws, but we also have to learn to exploit those traits and overcome our obstacles to keep moving forward.
Self-awareness can be achieved by different means estimulated by both internal and external factors. One of the tools at our reach are the perceptions, opinions and feedback received from others, enlightening that side of our nature that we might not be aware of.
Through self-disclosure, which involves a face-to-face interaction where we reveal information to another person that was not previously known by him/her. Also through different life experiences that can trigger an internal sense of awareness by testing one´s skills and values.
But the most important one is by applying self-analysis, which is no other than resorting to the reflection and exploration of the elements that shape our thoughts, behaviors, attitudes, personality and the way we approach our relations with the rest and understanding how they perceive us.
Nonetheless, there are other resources that can ease the auto-discovery journey through the use of personality tests and assesments such as the Multiple Intellegence Test, the VARK System and the Myers Briggs Test.
INTERPRETATIVE
Just considering the idea of achieving greater self-awareness opens a vast area of possibilities in my life. This due to the fact that I could be conscious of the many aspects that triggers and influence my emotions, thoughts and general stance before my surroundings and its inhabitants. Also, I would have more knowledge of my strenghts and flaws, which is a base point to improve and exploit the areas I am naturally good at, and leading my efforts to transform my flaws and mitigate them. With this in mind, I can have a clear sense of direction on where I have to go and what I have to chase to reach my goals.
DECISIONAL
The first step in the initiation of self-awareness, is to take the known personality tests available, sucha as the MIT, Miggs and VARK. However, thist tests are just a minor indicator of how a person´s personality can be, since they are vulnerable to cultural and academic tendencies, mood the person, etc. Once having a comparison of the tests and gripping a small hint of my personality type, the next step would be to self analyse myself through reflection of thoughts and actions, and the paths I can take to correct my flaws and direct my energy towards self-improvement.
